CAM package gets facelift

The latest upgrade of Esprit 2002, DP Technology?s CAM application, features a solid simulation and verification tool for production turning and milling, a project manager for cutting tool and machining operation management, and an automatic feature recognition tool for wire EDM.

Turning customers will reportedly benefit from the solid simulation and verification tool. It provides complete simulated dry-runs of G-code programs, previewing all fixed/moving and gang/slide tooling, turrets, and spindles in 3-D solid images. It uses the CNC machine?s number and configuration of each spindle, turret, and tool station to ensure that the simulator is working within the physical characteristics of the machine tool.

The project manager supports four- and five-axis production milling by automatically assigning each part feature to the most appropriate work plane and coordinates. The tool organizes complex part geometry, tooling, and fixtures to reportedly minimize programming time and optimize G-code.

This program also offers a tool for wire EDM that is said to automatically recognize wire thread locations, start point, and cutting profiles. Similar features are systematically grouped, allowing the programmer to create all rough and skim cutting operations in one step.

Esprit software now supports CNC programming from all Catia solids, surfaces, or wireframe part models. Esprit 2002 is currently available; users with an active software maintenance contract (SMC) receive a free upgrade.
