Focus: Packaging:Moldmaker expands IML services

StackTeck recently began to assemble robots in-house for turnkey, beside-the-press IML handling systems it builds, debugs, and optimizes at its facility.

As part of its program to continuously increase the output of its systems for any given application, StackTeck Systems Ltd. (Brampton, ON) reportedly has developed high-cavitation systems for IML, ranging from 2x6 systems for 32-oz containers, using wraparound or five-sided labels, to 2x12 systems for small cups, as well as 2x16 systems for small lids.

It has already shipped 50 IML molds, including 12 in the Americas. StackTeck sources say they have supplied the highest-cavitation IML container systems in the industry, but the company is not at liberty to disclose details.

Anticipating dramatic IML growth in North American and Latin American markets, it decided to take the next step. Along with the engineering expertise of its strategic robotics partner, Machines Pages SA, with headquarters in Foncine le Haut, France, StackTeck now supplies its high-speed, fully automated turnkey IML handling systems with robots assembled in-house. Its custom-built systems can include features such as label inspection, inmold label insertion, part removal, counting, quality control, automated boxing, and automated stacking equipment for manual packing.

Built from components with 95% North American content, its fully integrated IML systems are tested, debugged, and optimized at its Technical Services Center in Brampton prior to shipment. Field service and spares also are available.

“The new approach will enable StackTeck to provide customer support as a domestic supplier, while continuing to rely on IML expertise that has been developed in supplying well over 220 IML automation systems worldwide over a 20-year period,” says Fernando Segovia, VP of business development.
