Injection package aids polycarbonate processing

The KlearStar injection package is said to prevent speck contaminants in polycarbonates and is ideal for molding products such as headlight lenses, optical quality lenses, and clear covers. The new package is produced from a proprietary material that resists the corrosive gas produced by plasticating polycarbonate. The material reportedly prevents corrosion from starting, negates surface pitting, and prevents plasticated polycarbonate from accumulating in pits on the screw and barrel, then burning or degrading. This is said to result in faster start-ups and clear, clean parts free of speck contamination, with lowered manufacturing costs. The screw and barrel materials are said to have superior lubricity, improving material flow and reducing feedscrew torque requirements.
