Retrofit package converts existing mills into small-hole machines

Manufacturers and machine shops can economically add EDM deep hole drilling capabilities to CNC or manual mills with the new Model MT30S EDM Drill package. The drill handles difficult applications like drilling small-diameter holes through hard alloy steels, gas escape holes in molds, or start holes for wire EDMs. It is designed for quick changeover from milling to EDM drilling by simply clamping the granite worktable plate assembly to the mill table, swinging the servohead in place, then connecting the dielectric supply and electric power. The precision Z-axis servohead incorporates a 12-inch stroke, precision-ground spindle, and guide travel of 10 inches. The granite worktable is mounted on a metal base with a drain for dielectric fluid and threaded inserts for mounting vises, clamps, or other workholding devices. The resulting holes are virtually burr-free. With everything needed to mount on a mill, as well as installation and training, the MT30S EDM retrofit drill package costs about $32,000.
