UV Protection for PET Packaging

ClearShield, Milliken Chemical’s new UV-absorbing polymeric additive for PET containers, is a homogeneous liquid polymer designed for PET packaging. It blocks all UV rays in wavelengths up to 390 nm. As a clear polymer, ClearShield reportedly does not impact the clarity or color of a PET container, is FDA compliant for use in PET packaging of most food and beverage products, and does not impact product quality. During injection and blowmolding, ClearShield does not plateout, which can result in fouled equipment, manufacturing downtime, and bottle quality concerns. Whether incorporated in the resin or at the preform molding stage, ClearShield is ready for use as supplied and does not require further compounding into liquid or solid carriers.
