Plastics packaging: Bemis buys Mayor to expand in Asia

For Bemis, headquartered in Neehah, Wisconsin and one of the few publicly traded plastics processors in the flexible packaging industry, the move to buy Mayor is part of the company's ongoing advances into Asia. "This acquisition supports our strategy to enhance our presence in the Asia-Pacific region," said Henry Theisen, president and CEO of Bemis. "The high barrier, flexible packaging operation in Dongguan is a state-of-the art facility that serves food and consumer product companies around the world. The addition of Mayor Packaging complements our existing Asia-Pacific capabilities with a talented management team and an excellent workforce, providing Bemis a strong platform from which to expand in the future."

Bemis had 2010 net sales of $4.8 billion and employs more 20,000. Its facilities in Asia include three flexible packaging facilities, one each in China, New Zealand and Malaysia, plus two sites for processing (extrusion, thermoforming, conversion) of medical packaging and two for pressure sensitive seals.
