BASF Plastics & Color Solutions (Ludwigshafen, Germany) will exhibit its entire line at Fakuma 2008 this month in Friedrichshafen, Germany, including several new products aimed at helping customers meet challenges and differentiate products.

Ultradur B4300G6 HR and Ultradur B4330G6 HR, two new hydrolysis-stabilized PBT materials that comply with USCAR standards for automotive use, will be introduced. These materials also withstand flexural stress tests at 100% humidity and a temperature of 230°F (110°C).

BASF will also debut a specialty material for medical applications called Luran HD. It is an SAN (styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer) that complements Terlux HD (MABS), known for its impact resistance. Luran HD is more resistant to temperature and UV light, and its service package includes technical support for applications, compatibility tests with specific chemicals and biocompatibility testing (according to the U.S. Pharmacopoeia and ISO 10993-x), and the creation of drug master files (DMF).

BASF Color Solutions will display tailor-made color offerings via solid, liquid, and powder preparations, new special effects for packaging, and custom masterbatches for self-coloration of BASF engineering plastics. The focus is on tailor-made color, additive, and combination masterbatches with special features for specific needs.

New eye-catching special effects include depth, luster, sparkle, and multicolor, and further new samples will also be introduced at Fakuma.

For PET packages that contain vitamins or other sensitive ingredients, Color Solutions offers a special formula additive batch based on Uvinul S-Pack to effectively protect against UV radiation and prevent yellowing.

For molders who prefer to color BASF resins (such as Ultramid PA, Ultradur PBT, and Ultraform POM) at the press, Color Solutions offers optimally matched Sicopas and Sicoversal masterbatches.
