With sales returning to the levels seen in 2008, the company's best year on record, film and sheet extrusion systems supplier Macro Engineering & Technology Inc. (Mississauga, ON) is planning to expand its production floor space by approximately 40%. The new room will be used mainly for setting up and testing machinery prior to shipment.
Macro's D-10 binary air ring, introduced in early 2009: The company says it is seeing a surge in sales for its equipment from processors around the world. |
"Sales have been taken for a variety of machine types ranging from multilayer blown film lines, to specialty extrusion systems, to custom-built winding equipment," states Andrew Erskine, Macro's sales and marketing coordinator. "The orders are from both local and global customers with European, South American, Chinese, Canadian, and U.S. markets being the most prominent."
Like most, maybe every, plastics processing machinery manufacturer, the company's 2009 was a subpar year, but Macro says sales over the last three months were strong enough to justify the expansion. The company will use a neighboring building to make room for the extra production.
In addition to the new space, Macro has also increased its headcount by 15% since December, and says the new employees consist primarily of mechanical engineers and project managers to help handle the elevated workload. —[email protected]
