K 2013: German pelletizer firm expands manufacturing presence in Asia

Reduction Engineering Scheer GmbH is increasing its presence in Asia through doubling the scale of its manufacturing operation in China and setting up a sales and service center in Taiwan to support its customer base in Southeast Asia.

"Tainan, Taiwan, was chosen as the site for the service center on account of superior logistics according to Paul Merich, Head, Asia-Pacific Sales, Reduction Engineering GmbH. The main function of the 600-square meter production area will be re-sharpening of rotor knives using CNC grinding machines. "We also plan to start manufacturing pelletizers for the Asian market from our facility in Taiwan within the next 12 months," said Merich, speaking to PlasticsToday at the recent K Show. "These will be based on our German design, but incorporate some cost-saving features that will lower price by 30-35%."

In China, Scheer doubled production space for small pelletizers in July from 500 square meters to 1,000 square meters in response to strong growth in the mainland market.

At the K Show, Reduction Engineering Scheer also debuted a new series of vacuum strand dryers. The Model JV Air Knife Series operate at very low noise levels (85 dB versus 90-100 dB for competing products) according to Reduction Engineering Pelletizer Product Manager John Sly.
