Invista has added two new grades targeting low-melt applications to its sealing-grade (polyethylene terephthalate) PET polymers portfolio. Invista created Polyclear Seal PET 7001 and 7003 at the company's continuous polyester polycondensation pilot line in Gersthofen, Germany. Invista developed the grades in response to increased requests by customers who were interested in a polyester for fiber, film, containers, and engineering resin applications. The two materials are essentially the same, although Polyclear Seal PET 7001 utilizes an alternative catalyst.
Invista uses its continuous pilot line for testing and development of polyester polymers, process improvements, and modifications, as well as to offer support for commercial-scale production trials. In response to customer requests, the company has made the asset available to those interested in material and process development or small-scale production campaigns of polyesters for fiber, film, containers, and engineering resin applications. The continuous pilot line has a nameplate capacity of 40 kg/hr and throughputs ranging from 20 to 56 kg/hr. Dosing points for additives covering all stages of the process are positioned throughout the line, including the capability of feeding liquid or molten additives into the post finisher transfer line. —[email protected]
