Names in the News: Dickten Masch, Conair, Davis-Standard, DME, Synventive and more
Custom injection molder Dickten Masch Plastics (DMP) has hired Andy Bondhus to work as a plastics engineer at the firm. Bondhus will work out of the company's processing facility in Iowa, where he will support part design, mold flow, tooling, and tool design for DMP. Bondhus began his career at Lake Tool Inc. as a moldmaker, ran his own company (Plastic Solutions Inc.) for 11 years, and most recently was a tooling and design engineer at Innovative Injection Technologies Inc. (i2tech).

Dickten Masch (Nashotah, WI) was acquired in April 2010 by the Patmian Group.
Auxiliary equipment manufacturer Conair has hired Steve Petrakis, former president of Frigel North America, to serve as Conair's VP sales for the U.S. and Canada. Petrakis officially joins Conair on August 16. To now Larry Doyle, Conair's VP global sales and strategy, has also led the company's sales effort in the U.S. and Canada. For Petrakis, the move is a homecoming of sorts; he worked as a sales rep for Conair (and other manufacturers) in the 1970s.
Petrakis in 2008 was elected a member of the Plastics Pioneers Association, an exclusive organization of accomplished individuals in the plastics industry.
In answer to an MPW question, Duccio Dorin, CEO at Frigel Firenze SpA., the parent company, confirmed that Frigel's North American operations would now be run out of Italy.
Steve DelTorchio has joined extruder manufacturer Davis-Standard LLC as manager, key accounts for the company's Converting Systems Group. He will be responsible for managing specific blown-film accounts and responding to customer needs by providing technical information and quotations. He comes to Davis-Standard from Gloucester Engineering, where he worked in proposals, sales and engineering for more than 30 years.
DelTorchio is the third former Gloucester Engineering employee to join Davis-Standard since April 2010. Gloucester in June declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Mold solutions supplier DME Co. has hired two new field sales representatives: Jim Martin for Northern Illinois and Iowa; and Gary Horn for Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and western Tennessee. Martin comes to DME from Illinois-based Kirko Machinery, where he served as Sales Manager/Engineer for a variety of OEM products and services, including molding machines, robots, auxiliary equipment and nano-based products. He has previous experience designing tool control solutions for military applications, specifically tool-storage packaging, at FCE Industries. Horn’s previous experience includes positions as tool/project engineer for Plastic Masters Inc., Sr. program manager for United Technologies, director of program management Ford Motor Group for LDM Technologies, Sr. supplier quality project engineer for GM Worldwide Purchasing, and program manager/Sr. plastics engineer for AGS Automotive System.
Hot runner system supplier Synventive Molding Solutions (Peabody, MA) has made five new hires and one promotion within its North American sales and service team. Blair Krauter has joined Synventive as the director of commercial/industrial sales, where he will promote the company’s growth in the small automotive and commercial/industrial sectors. Based in Bolton, ON, Krauter joins Synventive from Metform, where he was VP sales and marketing. Prior to that, he worked for 12 years at Husky Injection Molding Systems (Bolton, ON), where he held a variety of sales and marketing positions.
Rob Cilia, a current Synventive employee, has been promoted to director of automotive sales, and Mitch Gordon has rejoined Synventive as OEM account manager, providing service/support to automotive OEMs. Gordon most recently worked as a director at TMG Sports Marketing, where he also managed injection mold trials. Prior to that, he worked at Synventive for 11 years in a variety of sales roles. He will work out of Synventive’s Livonia, MI office.
Synventive has hired Al Duff as a project manager, with Duff coming over from Autodesk (formerly Moldflow Corp.) where he worked for 14 years.
Ron Cosby has been hired as Synventive’s new Southeastern U.S. account manager, focusing on sales of Synventive hot runners for small-part applications. Based in Atlanta, the 40-year injection molding industry veteran comes to Syventive from DME.
Finally, Laurentiu Bodica has joined Synventive as a field service technician, assisting customers with new hot runner mold trials and hot runner repairs. He will also be based at Synventive’s Livonia, MI office.
Plastics compounder S&E Specialty Polymers (Lunenburg, MA) has made several appointments to its management team. Duane Shooltz has been named chief operating officer. Formerly senior VP at Gastite, a division of Smith Industries, Shooltz is now responsible for all operations at S&E and reports to Steve Graham, president and CEO. Tony Pham is the company’s new controller, joining S&E from Clearplas, which is also in Lunenburg. After 25 years at J-Von LLC, Bob Woodward has joined S&E as its senior chemist. He reports to Ilia Charlat, VP of research and development.
Dave Minardi has been promoted to operations manager. An S&E employee since its founding in 2004, Minardi has worked for 13 years in the plastics industry. He is responsible for materials management and purchasing. Steve Anderson is now manager of color development. Before joining S&E, Anderson worked for 14 years at Uniform Color Corp., where he was the senior colorist. Finally, Nick Semenza will work at S&E as a chemist. Semenza was president of CCC (Colors, Compounds and Consultants) Corp. (Seabrook, NH) before joining S&E.
Laser and laser manufacturing systems supplier Trumpf Group has named two new product managers, who will be based at the company’s Laser Technology Center in Plymouth, MI. Tracey Ryba is now product manager lasers and Frank Geyer is product manager laser systems. —[email protected]
