New HyPET preform machine promises 5% lower energy consumption

Husky Injection Molding Systems has launched a next generation HyPET system that features several enhancements to optimize the manufacturing process, Robin Lovell, business manager for PET systems at Husky, told PlasticsToday.

"Husky's strategy is to maintain a constant drumbeat of product innovation with the goal of keeping our customers in the lead," Lovell said. "The enhancements we have made to our next generation HyPET system represent our commitment to offering our customers the best return on their investments through continuous, ongoing technology innovation."

Husky officially launched HyPET in 2003. The enhancements to the system include a new user interface with simplified operator control, improved flexibility for mold changes, as well as faster cycle time options, Lovell said. Combined with an electric screw drive, these improvements result in up to 5% lower energy consumption than the previous generation HyPET system.

Lovell said the system is designed with a view toward compatibility with future technology developments, but that Husky could not elaborate more at this time.

Many of the technologies from the HyPET High Performance Package (HPP) system have now been applied to HyPET's components and sub-systems. As a result, the HyPET updates will allow molders to leverage the preform quality, ease of operation and process repeatability benefits that have been proven on several hundred HPP systems, the company stated.

In addition, commonality between the two product versions also means reduced training time and maintenance costs, as well as savings in spare parts inventories.

"By leveraging technology from our HyPET High Performance Package (HPP), we are providing our customers with the benefits of proven, field-tested, industry-leading technology, which removes potential risk from their operation," Lovell said.

The next generation HyPET system was made commercially available to customers in November 2012. Lovell said customer response has been stronger than expected and the first systems that were purchased have already been shipped.
