Plastics have overtaken petrochemicals as the top non-oil export from Saudi Arabia, according o a new report released by Riyadh-based Jadwa Investment, a boutique merchant bank. The report is not yet available at the company's website and was first reported on at ArabNews.com.

According to the report, higher prices being paid for plastics plus a 42% increase in the volume exported combined to propel plastics to the top position in the country's export statistics for 2010, with plastics exports for the year totaling $11.2 billion.
Petrochemicals' prices climbed in 2010 too, but the volume exported was up "only" 9%.
