Processors find help in plastics bone yard

Article-Processors find help in plastics bone yard

Polymer information provider IDES (Laramie, WY), in its biweekly plastics report (www.ides.com), has come up with an enticing idea to help processors refresh their memories of by-gone company and product names. The Plastics Graveyard, offers a way to help track down companies and products that have since changed their names. The site also shows companies and products that no longer exist.

For example the page shows that BP Amoco Polymers Inc. would later become Innovene and then to the present INEOS Polyolefins. Or how about Himont, which later became Montell Polyolefins with an interim as Targor, but is now Basell Polyolefins. On the rest in peace (RIP) side of the industry, readers can learn that Dow''s Questra line of syndiotactic polystyrene met an untimely death in 2004 while Prima Plastics life span stretched from 1999 to 2004.-Robert Colvin; [email protected]
