Rapid expands reach in Asia by acquiring Avian Machinery

Sweden-based Rapid Granulator AB announced a significant move at NPE2009—its acquisition of Shanghai-based Avian Machinery, the second-largest manufacturer of granulator machinery in Asia.

Rapid’s existing operations in China will relocate to Avian’s 50,000m2 facility in Shanghai as part of the agreement, where the company plans to manufacture and assemble more of its own product range in the 10-fold production-space expansion for customers in the region.

Once competitors, now partners (L to R): Mark Miao, GM at Avian Machinery; Bengt Rimark, marketing manager at Rapid Granulator; Chris Keller, president of IPEG; Rolf Gren, Rapid’s president and CEO, and Kirk Winstead, president of Rapid Granulator Inc.

Avian will still keep its branding and well-established distribution network, which has been selling its broad range of heavy to small granulators successfully in countries such as the UK, Spain, and Germany. With these product additions, Rapid will extend its portfolio and hopes to access the growing post-consumer and industrial recycling market opportunities in China.

Rolf Gren, president and CEO of Rapid Granulator Group, stresses that the company has no plans to close or move any existing operations outside of China, and intends to increase its presence in Asia through Avian’s existing distribution network. Rapid will also be able to service the local Chinese and Asian customers more quickly and efficiently, reducing lead times for a full range of granulators, pulverizers, and shredders. —[email protected]
