Asian resin suppliers promote green resins

An ABS resin employing a significant natural rubber component and originating from Thailand is making waves in the processing sector. Speaking to PlasticsToday at the recent Chinaplas show, supplier PTT Polymer Marketing (Bangkok) says overall up to 20% of the ABS resin is comprised of natural rubber, with the remaining 5% being synthetic rubber.

Despite being more costly that conventional ABS, the environmentally friendly resin has already been adopted by a Japanese automaker, which eventually wants up to 30% of the plastic in its vehicles to be naturally derived.

Another bio-resin to emerge at Chinaplas was Luclen from LG Chem (Seoul). The company offers alloy grades comprising PLA/ABS, PLA/PP and PLA/PC with biomass contents of 30%–40%. —[email protected]
