Resin supply: Ticona earns Sony Green Partner certification

Ticona Engineering Polymers’ (Florence, KY) Shelby, NC plant received Green Partner certification from Sony Corp. The site, which manufactures Vectra liquid crystal polymer (LCP), Celanex thermoplastic polyester (PBT), and Riteflex thermoplastic polyester elastomer (TPC-ET), received the certification by cooperating in the production of eco-friendly products and meeting established regulations for environment-related substances found in components that wind up in Sony products. The materials help Sony satisfy new standards for electronics, including Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS), Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE), and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. Sony established the program in 2002, which means that the electronics giant only purchases parts from suppliers who have passed an audit, which includes their chemical-substance management.
