Web-exclusive: Renewably sourced resin line expands

Sustainability seems to have taken hold of the national consciousness lately, and the proof can be found in one recent announcement from Ashland Composite Polymers (Dublin, OH; www.ashland.com). The company is expanding its line of Envirez renewable-resource resin products, some of which will now include Susterra renewably-sourced propanediol (Bio-PDO) from DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products (Loudon, TN; www.duponttateandlyle.com). Susterra is said to be a 100% renewably-sourced ingredient made from corn sugar.

Ashland developed Envirez resins using patented technology and renewable ingredients to provide composite fabricators with the first step to sustainable composites. “As demand for green products has increased, so has demand for these resins. By incorporating Susterra, we are now able to expand the range of applications for and offer a sustainable material option to a larger portion of our customer base,” said Jud Smith, vice president Ashland Performance Materials. DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products is a joint venture between DuPont and Tate & Lyle, a world leader in corn, wheat, and sugar derived ingredients.
