UV-stable TPE

An addition to the Santoprene line of vulcanized thermoplastic elastomers has expanded current capabilities with ultraviolet stability. Santoprene 8000 from Advanced Elastomer Systems (AES) processes well, is easily colorable, and provides long-term performance for many outdoor applications exposed to prolonged, direct sunlight, according to the manufacturer. The 60 and 70 Shore A TPEs are nonhygroscopic, requiring little or no drying before processing. AES reports that the vulcanized TPE has been formulated to replace thermoset elastomers such as EPDM, polychloroprene, and chlorosulfonated polyethylene; it is incompatible with acetal and PVC. Santoprene 8000 is available for $2.20 to $2.30/lb for truckload quantities.
