Software program combines training, application

Paulson Training Programs Inc. describes its new SkillBuilder interactive training program for molders as a high school chemistry lab class?one where you first learn and understand the concept before applying the concepts in a lab. This new program is a combination of the interactive courses from Paulson?s Practical Injection Molding series (Module 1?Basic Injection Molding) and the company?s SimTech simulation software, which was originally introduced at NPE ?97. The program simulates a 100-ton injection molding machine. Users can change every control that would be found on a live machine, as well as modify materials used and parts produced. The software performs 20 million calculations each cycle to present results.

The SkillBuilder, which features new 3-D graphics and animation, includes 15 lessons that cover such subjects as understanding the molding process, setting machine controls, the effects of backpressure, and others. The user first goes through the program?s curriculum to learn, and then goes to the lab to apply that knowledge with the simulator. The software runs on Pentium PCs and requires 16 MB of RAM, 50 MB of available hard drive space, and a sound system.

The complete six-CD set with SkillBuilder and Practical Injection Molding software costs $7495. For those who already have Practical Injection Molding, the SkillBuilder simulation software can be purchased for $2495. By NPE 2000, Paulson plans to have a complete library of injection molding courseware with lab lessons. It will take the user from knowing nothing about the molding process to becoming an expert?without ever touching a machine.
