HMC with automated pallets

TNP_Makino_ac.jpgA competitive price without reduced performance is a key selling point for an addition to a line of horizontal machining centers, according to its manufacturer. The a61 horizontal machining center is billed as compact and versatile with fewer moving parts for less maintenance. The manufacturer says it?s ideal for medium- to high-volume shops as well as any general contract machining operations.

With x-, y-, and z-axis travel of 28.7 by 25.6 by 28.7 inches, the a61 provides a total work zone of 32 by 36 inches. The pallet size is 19.7 inches, and the center?s total load capacity is 1540 lb. Throughput is accelerated with a rapid traverse and feedrate of 1970 in/min.The a61 comes standard with a 40-taper 12,000-rpm spindle that promises minimized vibration, and tasks can be quickly switched via a ring-type 40-tool changer that?s also standard. Larger magazines with 60 to 313 tools are available.

The Radical Mode of the proprietary Geometric Intelligence servocontrol is standard, and it?s said to maintain accuracy without affecting cycle times. The a61?s automatic pallet changer has safety guards, two pallets, and changeout times of 7 seconds. Tool-to-tool change time is .9 second, and chip-to-chip time is 2.5 seconds.

Other features include chip conveyor and filtration, spindle coolant at 300 psi, a three-point support system, ergonomic swing, an operator control panel, and a four-layer protective operator door window with overhead shower coolant.
