Plastic additives help thin film extruders get out of the fog

One of the two new additives, called Grindsted PGE 909, is designed to provide high cold fog performance in cast and bioriented polypropylene (BOPP) film at 1.5-2.0% letdown ratios. The second new additive, Grindsted PS 426, can be used at low (0.7-1.5%) loading levels for hot fog prevention in both film and thermoforming applications.

Both additives are now available globally and have food approval.

The supplier also offers an anti-fog additive, Grindsted PGE 308, for thin films extruded from metallocene polyethylene or for multi-layer films. Metallocene PE has top-notch heat sealing properties but the as heat seal layer is often only a few microns thick, imparting good anti-fog properties to it can be a tough challenge. Danisco says its additive helps processors do just that.
