Cereplast gains distribution into Chile and Peru

Following on what it terms a major success in Brazil, Cereplast Inc. (El Segundo, CA), maker of bio-based sustainable plastics, has formed a new distribution agreement with ATSA Chile SA (Santiago, Chile) covering both Chile and Peru, where Cereplast sees growing demand for sustainable materials. 

"We are excited that ATSA has chosen Cereplast to provide bioplastic resins in Chile and Peru and admire their commitment to reduce the impact that oil-based plastics have on the environment," said Cereplast CEO Frederic Scheer. He added that this expansion is largely made possible by the success the company has had in Brazil, and is an essential element of Cereplast's long-term growth strategy.

Cereplast resins replace a significant percentage of petroleum-based additives with starches made out of corn, wheat, tapioca and potatoes or Ingeo PLA, which allows bioplastics to return back to nature within 180 days of disposal for the Compostables or offers a more sustainable alternative for hybrid resins.

Cereplast says the United States has a strong presence in the Chilean resin market as the country's third largest supplier with a 16% market share. ATSA CEO Enrique Vallejos said, "We are excited to introduce Cereplast's biodegradable resins into our markets in Chile and Peru," said.
