Mauser makes move with JV in Spanish market

Industrial packaging blowmolder Mauser (Brühl, Germany) has entered a 50:50 joint venture with Spain’s Reyde for the production and sale of intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) in Spain. Reyde, the packaging subsidiary of the Armando Alvarez group, already is Spain’s leader in production of steel and plastic drums and IBCs.

The newly established company will operate under the name of Mauser Reyde Iberica SL and be co-located with Reyde’s facility in Tarragona. A new blowmolding machine (Mauser makes its own) will be installed at the site. Production and sales for the new JV are scheduled to begin in March 2009.

Until now Mauser has supplied the Spanish market via its IBC site in Coursan, France and also has licensed some technology for its plastics drums to Reyde in the past. The combined IBC business allows Mauser to increase its European production output and to enhance its plant utilization. “We expect substantial synergy effects for our European business through economies of scale,” says Klaus Beckmann, manager of Mauser’s Strategic Business Unit Europe.—[email protected]
