As thermoforming permits greater complexity in tooling and compatibility with injection molded parts to create innovative assemblies, we're seeing larger and more complex components and assemblies. More designs are addressing auto, truck and RV interior dashboards that result in larger assemblies at reduced manufacturing costs. Medical applications also are becoming popular.The winners of the 2016 SPE Thermoforming Division Parts Competition are great examples of how thermoforming technology is staying on the cutting edge. Here are the five gold award winners in the heavy gauge category.Heavy Gauge Vacuum Form Category: Touch TowerSubmitted by Associated Thermoforming Inc. (Berthoud, CO), this multi-part beverage dispensing system is manufactured for a major soda producer. The system employs LED touch technology for the dispensing choices. Vacuum formed from 0.125-in. gauge high-gloss metallic silver, black and red materials, the beverage dispenser has a modern, eye-catching design.
