Materials database migrates from desktop to Web

Poised for release this month, Prospector Desktop version 3.02 from IDES has added 400 new materials to its offering. This database on CD-ROM allows users to search among more than 37,000 data sheets to select a material. The new version contains ASTM data for 33,562 materials and Campus data for 4118 materials. Updated information comes from DuPont, DSM, Honeywell, Nova Chemicals, and Dow Plastics.

In the previous release, version 3.01, IDES began integrating the functionality of its Prospector Web product, which is usable on the Internet, into its desktop software. Display and search functions more closely match that of Prospector Web, and integration continues in version 3.02, says Nathan Potter, marketing manager for IDES. ?We?re finding more people are interested in the Web version, especially with more connectivity to the Internet,? he explains. One reason is that subscriber updates to the desktop software occur quarterly or annually, but Prospector Web is updated every two weeks. An annual license for the desktop software is $680; for quarterly updates, the price is $1180. Prospector Web costs $495 for 50 sessions or $995 for 100 sessions.
