Austria’s Alpla Acquires Spanish Packaging Company Bopla

Alpla intends to use the Spanish company’s expertise in single-stage manufacturing technologies to expand its own product portfolio.

Alpla, a global packaging and recycling specialist located in Hard, Austria, announced the acquisition of Bopla S.A., based in Les Franqueses, Spain, as part of an asset deal. Alpla intends to use the Spanish company’s expertise in single-stage manufacturing technologies to expand its own product portfolio. No information was given about the purchase price or other details.

Founded in 1978, Bopla S.A. uses extrusion blow molding (EBM) and injection stretch blow molding (ISBM) technologies to produce plastic packaging. The majority of its customers are from the cosmetics, personal and household care market segments. The site in Les Franqueses currently has a workforce of 50; all employees will be retained by Alpla, the company said.

“Bopla is well positioned in areas that belong to Alpla’s core lines of business,” said Marc de Voogd, General Manager at Alpla France and Iberia. “We also want to make the most of the company’s many years of experience with single-step manufacturing processes to expand our portfolio.” Alpla has had a production plant in Les Franqueses, near Barcelona, since 1990 that will benefit the integration of the new site.
