Interest in biodegradable plastics continues to grow unabated. At the ‘Sustainability in the plastics industry’ conference hosted by MPW and our sister publication Injection Molding Magazine at last week’s Plastec Midwest trade show, I was approached by two gentlemen from a well-known U.S.-based supplier of plants and plants seeds.
The men’s company is seeking a processor able to provide molded or thermoformed biodegradable containers that are readily printable and offer some degree of resistance to water, but which degrade under backyard compost piles---so that there is no need for collection and shipping to an industrial composting facility.
They also would like to replace their paper seed bags with backyard compostable plastic ones, with the same requirement for good printability.
If you think you have the solution to their needs, shoot me a note at [email protected] and I’ll pass it to them.
