Multi-Layer Technology, which Husky (Bolton, ON, Canada) introduced at the last NPE in 2015, offers a number of functional benefits—enhanced package performance and security—along with cost savings—by using less material, the technology delivers a lower total part cost and lower total cost of ownership. The technology enables packaging with light, oxygen and carbon dioxide barrier properties, but it also allows for considerable design freedom, which Husky is illustrating in some fanciful ways in booth W1303 at NPE2018.
More than 30 Multi-Layer Technology systems have been sold around the world for a spectrum of applications, and customers keep coming up with new ideas, said Dave Morton, Vice President of Multi-Layer Technology, during a press tour of the booth. “Beyond functionality, there is much more that can be done with Multi-Layer Technology.”
For example, the undulating shapes of the bottles in the short video above are accented by an enhanced color gradient and distinctive overlap closure. The concept was developed by Husky in partnership with PET Engineering and Penn Color.
Husky and its partners also developed a bottle (pictured below) that changes color based on the temperature—red when it’s hot and purple when it’s cold.
None of these applications are being commercialized, noted Morton. They are merely meant to show the infinite design possibilities of Multi-Layer Technology.
