NextLife offers support to brand owners interested in sustainable packaging providing post consumer recycled (PCR) resin sourcing, product life cycle assessments (LCA), sustainable package design, product-marketing support, and the development of retail-based closed-loop recycling programs. All NextLife certified packaging contains 25% to 100% PCR materials and includes proprietary FDA approved grades. In addition, all materials are certified via a third party LCA.
Ronald Whaley, president and CEO of MVR, said in a release that the addition of NextLife will help promote its recycled resin and sustainable packaging in general. "The addition of NextLife will broaden the value proposition we can bring to our customers," Whaley said, "and accelerate the pace at which brand owners understand and are able to implement sustainable solutions, including new opportunities for our line of sustainable resins."
MVR has been expanding its manufacturing, recently opening a new facility in Frankfort, KY, with announced plans to open another site in Michigan. MVR says the carbon footprint of its materials is 70% less than that of a virgin resin.
At the Society of Plastics Engineers' (SPE) 2009 Global Plastics Environmental Conference (GPEC), NextLife, which originally grew out of Mountain Valley Recycling, launched. At the time, company officials said they would work with retailers to close the loop, so that, for instance, film used in stretch wrap could be recycled into more stretch wrap.
