Genesis Plastics Welding Ramps up Production of Oxygen Hoods for COVID-19 Patients

A contract manufacturer that has been producing oxygen hoods for hyperbaric oxygen therapy systems for 25 year has seen a sudden surge in demand because of COVID-19. Genesis Plastics Welding announced today that it will ramp up production of the hoods to help free up ventilators for the most critically ill patients that have contracted the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The sealed and pressurized hoods can help patients recover from respiratory distress through pure oxygen therapy, said the company.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a well-established treatment for decompression sickness that may result from scuba diving, writes the Mayo Clinic on its website. The treatment increases air pressure three times higher than normal, allowing the lungs to gather more oxygen; as a result, it is used to treat numerous medical conditions where increased blood oxygen is beneficial.

Genesis Plastics Welding said that it is exploring additional production for several global medical device OEMS to meet growing demand for oxygen hoods amid the coronavirus crisis.
“At our core, we are makers, and America’s critical medical device manufacturing infrastructure has an important role to play in keeping essential products flowing into our hospitals,” said President and CEO Tom Ryder. “We’re all in this together, and I’m proud to be able to leverage our expertise to meet rising market demand for oxygen hoods amid the worldwide pandemic.”

Certified to ISO 13485:2016, Genesis Plastics Welding provides radio frequency (RF) welding and heat sealing applications of plastic products for the medical and other industries as well as the military. Its proprietary ecoGenesis technology allows RF plastic welding of very thin gauge polyethylene, polypropylene, and low-loss polymers and can facilitate PVC and polyurethane replacement with phthalate-free plastics.
