NPE 2006 attendance exceeds 2003

If the metric for a successful show is to simply increase the number of visitors from one event to the next, than the recently completed NPE 2006 can be judged a winner. Eclipsing the NPE 2003 total registration mark by 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 21 of the show week, NPE 2006 finished with 64,451 registrations, a 2% increase over NPE 2003''s figure of 63,018. That figure included a record number of foreign visitors, according to show sponsor, the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI; Washington, DC).

SPI reported that excluding exhibitor registrations, which are lumped with show totals, foreign registration was up 33% over 2003 and accounted for 24% of all NPE 2006 registrations. In addition, although total registration was up only slightly, exhibitor registration was down, so that the number of visitors actually walking the show was up 9% over 2003.

In the end, a total of 1850 companies exhibited occupying 949,500 sq ft of floorspace. Exhibitors were down 4% compared to 2003, but SPI attributed that to overall industry consolidation. Hong Kong and Mainland China picked up much of the slack, sending 127 companies-the largest foreign contingent-up from only 27 in 2003. In terms of visitors, show attendees came from 126 countries, with Canada accounting for the most followed by Mexico and China.
