Comar embarks on western expansion

The specialty packaging, device and component supplier serving the medical and other sectors is building a custom manufacturing facility in Rancho Cucamonga, CA.

Comar, a specialty packaging, device and component supplier serving the medical and other sectors, announced the construction of a custom manufacturing facility in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Comar will consolidate current employees, equipment, and operations at the existing Rancho Cucamonga and Garden Grove, CA, plants into this new state-of-the-art facility. Comar is majority owned by Morgan Stanley Capital Partners.

The new ISO 13285–certified, CGMP-compliant and FDA-registered 230,000-square-foot facility will house injection blow molding, injection stretch blow molding and injection molding cells. An ISO Class 8 cleanroom will occupy 26,000 square feet of the facility for injection molding and assembly with room for expansion. A full-service mold prototyping lab and dedicated mold sampling and development equipment will enable Comar to rapidly bring projects from ideation, design and prototype to full production.

“This transformational investment is an exciting milestone for our organization. We have an opportunity to create a purpose-built facility that will enhance the employee experience, delight our customer and provide a path for significant continued growth,” commented Mike Ruggieri, Comar CEO. ”This is a necessary step to support our continued growth and vision to be recognized as the premier plastic packaging, device and component supplier, innovating solutions for customers who lead the way to a healthier world.”

The goal is to begin construction in the spring of this year, and complete move-in and production startup of the new facility by the end of 2020. The facility will support manufacturing of complex finished medical devices and sub-assemblies incorporating injection molding, blow molding, high-speed assembly, testing, and finished device pack-out, said Comar.

Comar is exhibiting at Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) West in Anaheim, CA, from Feb. 11 to 13. Visit the company at booth 3874.
