Global specialty chemicals leader Clariant and bioplastics specialist FKuR have announced that they have entered into a distribution agreement with immediate effect. Under the agreement, Clariant Masterbatches will market, sell and distribute FKuR's full line of biodegradable and bio-based products in North America, a product portfolio comprising FKuR's Bio-Flex PLA blends, Biograde, cellulose blends, Fibrolon, woodfiber reinforced compounds, Terralene compounds based on I'm Green PE and and Terramid compounds based on Vestamid Terra polyamides.
The new distribution agreement is a logical step for FKuR's growth in North America. "With Clariant Masterbatches, we have expanded our ability to service customers' needs within USA and Canada." said Carmen Michels, president of FKuR Plastics Corp.
Sustainability is a crucial element in Clariant's Business Strategy. The company has therefore created a program called '[email protected],' under which it has brought together all its activities in the sustainability area. FKuR and its portfolio of biocompounds is a good fit with this strategy.

"As a strong driver of our profitable growth strategy, '[email protected]' is an integral part of the way we work.," said Peter Prusak, head of marketing for Clariant Masterbatches North America. "Many of our products are excellent examples of how sustainability and innovation have been successfully incorporated into a competitive portfolio in the marketplace."
The growth of the bioplastics industry over the last years has been substantial due to the demand for products used for packaging goods with a short shelf-life such as bags & shoppers, food packaging, mulch films and the like. For these applications, biodegradability and the associated alternative disposal route provide added value for the consumer.
However, increasingly, biorenewability - i.e., the use of renewably sourced feedstock materials - is becoming more and more important for both durable and non-durable products. As the awareness of the importance of reducing the carbon footprint grows, the demand for more sustainable products will continue to expand.
FKuR successfully caters to both application areas, offering bio-based and compostable plastics using the highest amount of renewable resources. On the other hand, FKuR has products for customers seeking to create a closed-loop system for compostable bioplastics without losing any valuable resources along the way.
"As 'The Bioplastic Specialist' we offer innovative product solutions for all processing methods and applications our customers wish to realize using bioplastics," Michels said.
