Plastic Molding Technology grows footprint in El Paso

Article-Plastic Molding Technology grows footprint in El Paso

Nametag hello, I'm expanding
The expansion will benefit the company’s medical molding business as well as its access to the Mexican market.

Plastic Molding Technology Inc. (PMT), a custom injection molder in El Paso, TX, has leased an additional 39,000 square feet that will increase the company’s total facility footprint to nearly 100,000 square feet by the fourth quarter of 2020. The new space will allow the company to focus on new technology and value-added services while retaining its convenient export access to the Mexico market, said the company.

"PMT is laser-focused on supporting our customers, whether through providing more value-add services or by proactively eliminating potential risks in their supply chains,” said CEO Charles A. Sholtis. “The decision to expand within our current building footprint means we can seamlessly add more capabilities and capacity without a disruptive move to a new location.”

Now in its 47th year of business, PMT has experienced considerable growth over the past five years. Last year, PMT made the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing U.S. private companies for the first time.

Expanding PMT’s footprint is part of the company’s strategic plan to increase its medical molding capabilities alongside its other main business segments. PMT already dedicated 2,500 square feet of existing space to a new medical molding center. This space is currently being prepared for installation of four all-electric molding machines. PMT is actively working toward ISO 13485 and ISO 14001 certification.

PMT also remains focused on implementing automation across the facility. Currently over 95% of the company’s 62 injection molding machines are running either advanced automation or robotic systems.

PMT also continues to see strength in the Mexico export market. The company’s expanded space, combined with its strategic location, will support major international assembly operations in Mexico.

“With the final signing of the USMCA,” said Sholtis, “PMT is more confident that our strategic location on the U.S.-Mexico border will be imperative to our continued growth, especially as a key export supplier to assembly operations across the border.”

PMT is exhibiting at Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) West in Anaheim, CA, from Feb. 11 to 13. Visit the company at booth 1447.
